This thesis will be dedicated to the social and spatial challenges associated with the roll-out of BioEnergy technologies with CO2 Capture and Storage. Its objective is to study and assess various approaches to reducing the CO2 present in the atmosphere in order to achieve carbon neutrality, in line with societal, environmental and economic expectations. The CarMa Chair has been given three missions: training in and through research; education of future ecological transition players and public awareness-raising with a view to informing public debate; knowledge sharing with the international scientific community. Two post-doctoral projects are also under way focusing on negative CO2 emission technologies and their treatment on the carbon markets, as well as assessment of their environmental impact. These technologies combine energy production from biomass — using atmospheric CO2 in the photosynthesis process — with capture of the CO2 emitted during biomass combustion and its geological storage. While some BECCS technologies are mature, their roll-out may run into sociopolitical and economic difficulties, associated, in particular, with their inherent constraints.

Students gain the skills necessary for understanding the complex interactions of markets and policy that influence the energy, mineral and environmental industries. The program focuses on applied quantitative tools and models that form a foundation for sound business and public policy. Graduate study in Mineral and Energy Economics at Mines offers a specialized program in applied economics that includes training in valuable quantitative methods. Our faculty are actively engaged in economic research applied to earth, energy and the environment. They have specific expertise in global climate policy, price forecasting, energy demand, utility regulation, asset valuation, critical minerals, environmental economics, renewable energy mandates, and international mineral markets.
He is involved in the teaching and organisation of the Centre's three programmes Energy and Markets, Petroleum Economics and Management, and the Master's degree in Environmental, Energy and Transport Economics. His areas of interest are the interactions between technical change, energy transition and economic development in the long run. During the three years following his PhD, Victor conducted research in various institutions. Then in England, in the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex in Brighton, where his work focused on the energy impacts of digital technologies. In addition to his lectures and publications in various academic journals, Victor now focuses on writing books for the general public.
