Actually, the novel is the spiritual journey of Jeanette from religion bound personality to complete freedom and this journey is completely associated with religious images. The very beginning of the novel indicates the growth process through which Jeanette is obliged to go by her mother. Jeanette is urged to discriminate between thing to be good and evil, the followers of god and of devil, and she is brought up to be the implied "Sacrificial Lamb" 3. Her Sundays belong to her "Lord", and she is taught by her mother with quotations from the bible. Her mother permanently listens to radio to follow the developments that missionaries have achieved all over the world, and Pastor Spratt is almost more familiar to Jeanette than her own father.
