The Common Application just announced that The Common Application essay prompts for will be the same as last year. Last year, nearly 70 percent of Common Application member colleges and 90 percent of school counselors said that the prompts were effective in helping students represent themselves to colleges. Last year my students wrote terrific essays using these prompts. I have lots of ideas to pass along.
Please note that after your application is submitted electronically, letters of recommendation and transcripts can still be sent to complete your application. This form is available to registrants of either website and is submitted with the application. It must be submitted online. The writing supplement gives us an opportunity to get to know you in a more personal way outside of your stats. So, let your personality shine, take risks, and remember that there is no right answer.
For the application cycle, the Common Application essay prompts remain unchanged from the cycle. With the inclusion of the popular "Topic of Your Choice" option, you have the opportunity to write about anything you want to share with the folks in the admissions office. The current prompts are the result of much discussion and debate from the member institutions who use the Common Application.
